Flex Room

Detroit-based interior designer Anahi Hollis worked with her entrepreneur clients to create a beautiful room that serves multiple functions: home office, cozy reading nook, bar, library, movie den and a sleeping room for overnight guests. Located in an second-story apartment on Bagley-Trumbull in Corktown, this stylish and supremely comfortable flex room checks all the boxes by employing a handful of space-saving design details. A plush leather sofa pulls out into a bed; shelves hold books, liquor and plants; custom built-ins hide office supplies and a printer; and a clever, custom-designed walnut desk folds up into a compact shelf. The narrow wing wall provides just enough depth to build the desk area. The custom walnut desk functions in two ways: when it’s closed, the top sits at a perfect height for standing, and flipped down, the height is perfect for seated desk work. The built-in cabinet to the left provides a storage drawer for office supplies, and a filing cabinet below. The French doors can be opened to create a more airy, expansive sense of space, or closed for privacy.
